Make the Pledge
We know many people agree that a Walmart at the old GI Joe's site would not be good for our community. It appears that county building codes will not stop them, but a broad citizen response can. The Pledge is simple:
I will not shop at the Oak Grove Walmart. Period.
Why the pledge? Since zoning ordinances have not yet incorporated the vision, values, and guiding principles of the MAP report, the only way citizens can influence the outcome is to speak out - broadly and loudly. This is not about disliking Walmart. It is about the many negative effects that Walmart has for the workers, business owners, seniors, and families of our community. Being vocal and visible with disapproval of Walmart has kept the corporation out of other communities. Together we can keep them out of Oak Grove.
Ways You Can Help
There are ways you can help more if you are up for it. Write a letter to your Board of County Commissioners, Clackamas County Planning Department, Clackamas County Planning Commission, North Clackamas School District Board. Write a letter to the editor of a local paper. (We have contact information HERE.) Weigh in wherever you can. The more we discuss the problem of Walmart, the stronger we become.
If you want to help more, check the I want to help box and give us some contact information. We have organized support for actions you can take. There are many people who feel the way you do and will work with you. Do as much or as little as you want and your schedule permits.
You can also help collect Pledge signatures. When you speak with family, friends, neighbors, or church members, have a pledge sheet ready to document their opposition to Walmart in our community. Download the pledge sheet (HERE) and print a few copies. Together, we can protect our economy and our vision for Oak Grove.
